GOOD OCEAN CITIZENSHIP
Maui boating & ocean guidelines.
These guidelines help protect people, coral, marine life and local communities. They are a practical orientation—not an exhaustive statement of all applicable laws. Verify current rules and rental operating limits before departure.
CAPTAIN
Know your responsibilities
Operate only if appropriately experienced and eligible. Review the vessel briefing, local charts, weather, return-time requirements and emergency procedures.
MARINE LIFE
Give wildlife space
Never chase, encircle, feed, touch or crowd protected animals. Follow current federal and Hawaiʻi wildlife approach restrictions.
REEFS
Protect living coral
Use approved moorings where permitted. Never stand on coral, drag anchors over reef, or disturb protected habitats.
OTHER USERS
Respect divers and swimmers
Watch for dive flags, slow around swimmers, and maintain safe separation. Use the applicable local navigation and dive flag rules.
LOCAL COMMUNITY
Practice aloha at the ramp
Follow launch instructions, keep noise down, give working boats space and be considerate of local residents and water users.
VISITOR RESPONSIBILITY
Leave no trace
Secure all gear and trash. Avoid plastics blowing overboard, minimize wake near shore and report hazards to the team.
BEFORE DEPARTURE
Confirm the latest restrictions.
Protected waters, wildlife seasons, mooring rules and weather conditions change. Review instructions from the Maui Boat Rentals team and official state and federal agencies.
